On Sunday January 24th – dedicated advocates collectively travelled thousands of miles to oppose the racing industry who back slapped each other in the glitzy surroundings of the Lancaster Hotel central London.

Rubbing shoulders with the bookmakers – GBGB – RGT – owners and trainers was Romford MP Andrew Rosindell who gave the award to the ‘Greyhound of the Year’s’ trainer.

The industry’s newspaper – The Racing Post – stated that 440 people attended the event at a cost of  £85 for the evening  that celebrates the industry’s handful of ‘high achievers’. The newspaper also states that these people ‘actually care the most’ and so you would assume that the total of £37,000 paid by attendees would also donate generously to the Retired Greyhound Trust’s raffle.

It seems not as a pitiful £5,735 was raised for their discarded betting products – equalling an average donation of just £13 but still an improvement on the £4,000 raised last year.

As the RGT’s chief executive pointed out “That means one extra greyhound will be found a good home”

Never before have the words “Shame on you” been so appropriate!

Many thanks to Tamzin for reading the speech for Greyt Exploitations.
