Brianna ~ Horrific Case of Neglect
22.02.10
A badly neglected female greyhound found straying near Claudy Northern Ireland with wounds so deep, her hip bones were exposed, may have been dragged on her back suggests a vet.
Staff at the Rainbow Rehoming Centre in Eglington say they are ‘very worried’ about what appears to be the growing trend of neglect of some retired greyhounds in the Londonderry district.

NOBODY loved her ~ NOBODY missed her
BUT someone dumped and brutally murdered her!
12.02.10
We received an email this morning – with the above caption - from a very valued supporter of the campaign.
Her email told a very sad tale…………
Dear Greyhound Friends
While surfing the internet I found by chance, a link to an Irish dogs' forum. I was deeply shocked and very sad to read a poor blue girl was found dumped in a ditch with her ears cut off on a quiet back road - between Celbridge and Maynooth, Co.Kildare, Ireland - where people had dumped their rubbish.
I couldn't find any more information about this defenceless poor greyhound girl and I'm afraid it’s too late for anything to be done for that poor girl. Please read
http://www.irishdogs.ie/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13158&PID=179455&title=found-dead-greyhound
People must become more educated to take at least photos, if possible and also the earmarks and inform an independent group when they find a greyhound in such conditions.
In the past, we have seen all other kinds of cases "covered with silence” and I think her sad fate and horrible ending should never be forgotten.
That's why I ask you all to help spread what has happened to the unknown blue greyhound girl, so we do not forget her and her fate. Be blessed blue girl and Rest In Peace.
~
The story highlights how thousands of greyhounds go unaccounted for and disposed of so crudely with no one knowing – unloved, mistreated and finally dumped with worthless rubbish.
So please, let us not forget these ‘unknown’ gentle creatures and light a candle for this poor girl and the thousands of others whose fate remains unknown.

Open Letter to the News & Star
10.02.10
Many thanks to all the hundreds of supporters who wrote to the News & Star and Allerdale Council expressing your concerns for the welfare of dogs kept at Northside allotments in Workington.
A disappointing article has been published in the newspaper and we have written to the Editor to request the biased reporting be addressed as a matter of urgency.
We have also submitted two Freedom of Information requests to Allerdale Council, which we hope will confirm the exact nature of the greyhounds poor state of health and whether the council’s claim of ‘no welfare issues’ was in fact a financially influenced.
Please click here to read the News and Star article and our Open Letter to the Editor of the News & Star ~ thank you

The Killing Tracks of Britain
02.02.10
Clive Ellis – founder of Greyhound Watch – has written another damning article, exposing the needless suffering of greyhounds on British tracks.
Mr Ellis catalogues the destruction – by the track vet - of 8 greyhounds who sustain injuries during the first month of racing in 2010.
A month where a true reflection of greyhound fatalities cannot be determined because many stadiums remained closed due to the extreme weather conditions.

‘No Welfare Issues’ - Say Allerdale Council
31.01.10
On December 22nd, a concerned volunteer from a local rescue centre – Tony Locke - emailed greyhound protection groups asking for help and advice regarding four greyhounds kept in filthy conditions on a council allotment.
The dogs are confined to a small muddy area, strewn with rubbish and dangerous objects and fed on what can best be described as ‘runny porridge’.
One greyhound can be seen unable to place any weight on her hind leg and another dog is completely bald on his hind legs and underbelly. We have no way of knowing what bedding - if any - has been provided inside the sheds and despite Workington experiencing sub zero temperatures of minus 6ºC and heavy snow falls throughout January – the dogs have never been seen wearing coats or jackets.
