On August 22nd at William Hill’s Newcastle dog track – greyhounds were forced to perform in not only torrential rain but during a thunder storm lasting over 2 hours.
The weather was that ferocious – the live transmission was lost and the hare failed causing a crash on the home straight.
The meeting continued unabated in order to preserve the gambling industry’s profits that are generated through off course betting i.e. online and in the bookmaker’s shops.
