The Irish Sunday Times have exposed plans by the Irish Greyhound Board to assist with establishing of greyhound racing in China which would develop Ireland’s export market of greyhounds – currently valued at €40m a year and seal the fate of thousands of greyhounds in a country where dog meat is considered a delicacy.

The Humane Society of the United States estimate that China is the main source of 2 million dogs and cats killed annually for their fur and despite China having a reputation for cruelty towards wild and domestic animals – Ireland are set to follow Australia’s footsteps who still continue to trade in the export of greyhounds to Asia.
